有一次我從團部回來，天色已晚，正遇上趙建剛在溝口那片稻田里逮青蛙，便在旁邊看了一會兒。原來他自制了一個小工具，是用一根直徑約2cm的小木棍，在頂端倒著定了三個釘子，他用手電筒照著青蛙多的地方，青蛙看見亮光便紛紛跳了出來，他用帶釘的棍子一扎一個、一扎一個，不一會兒就能逮一大堆。他說青蛙很好收拾，用剪刀剪一個口，一扒拉，整張皮就下來了，青蛙肉又嫩又細，爆炒最好吃，紅燒也可以，這點我相信，趙建剛是南方人，鼓搗這些東西歷來都是很在行的。

趙建剛吃青蛙的一個笑話是我親眼所見，還是那年夏天的一個夜半，我聽見他從地里回來后，在他宿舍和幾個人進進出出地忙活著，我知道他們又是在收拾青蛙。但過了一會兒，卻聽見他們幾人紛紛跑出房子，在院子里不住地呸、呸、呸地吐東西，接著又是大笑聲、漱口聲，不知他們在搞什么，便開門出去，問他們怎么了，他們只顧漱口、刷牙、大笑，不說啥事。第二天我才知道，趙建剛在炒青蛙時，發現沒有鹽了，不知誰想起二班宿舍的窗臺上有，便去抓了一把用了。青蛙炒好后，幾個人一嘗便大叫起來，什么怪味呀!這才明白那窗臺上的東西不是鹽，而是尿素(化肥)，這件事后來成了戰友們取笑趙建剛的話柄。不過，在那精神和物質都匱乏的年代，趙建剛經常能隨時發現身邊為我所食的東西，并能舍出工夫把它變成美味，不得不承認這是熱愛生活、樂觀面對困境的一種積極活法，也是他的性格所致。

離開南泥灣后，多次吃過田雞肉，油炸的、爆炒的、黃燜的，每次都會想到趙建剛和青蛙的故事。青蛙是益蟲，按現在的說法，捕捉青蛙就是破壞生態平衡，但那時人們還沒意識到。稻田里成群成堆的青蛙是怎么捉也捉不完的，之所以沒去大量捕捉它，是因為當時還沒人把青蛙叫田雞，田雞肉還沒被大家接受，否則灶房就應該去捉一些青蛙來改善伙食，當然，只有趙建剛當司務長才行。

五年前的那個春節，大家都沒有過好，之前在趙建剛檢查出患了不治之癥后，大家就難以相信，一個熱心、活躍、勤快、隨和、熱愛生活的人，快要不久于人世了嗎?也許他自己有感覺，去世前三個月，他拖著不適的身體、跟隨團宣傳隊回到了闊別三十多年的南泥灣，從錄像中還可以看到他和戰友們在團部廣場高唱“軍墾戰歌”，還可以看到他攙扶著腿受傷的戰友上山坡。

大年三十那天，聽到他因支持不住又一次入院的消息，晚上我們全家二十多口人正吃年夜飯時，外甥因接到單位電話需馬上趕去，我放下只叨了一口菜的筷子，坐他的車趕往醫院。遠遠地、醫院門口、昏暗而又清冷的路燈下，站著趙建剛的妻子韓文渢，她在迎接我，她的身影顯得那么焦慮、孤單、無助。外面鞭炮炸響，病房卻很安靜，使我能聽得清他微弱的話語，他向我講述不久前回南泥灣的情景，講述他知道有一種牧草，可以在南泥灣種植，發展養牧業，講述著他病好以后還要再回一次南泥灣的計劃。這時又有一位戰友孫詠民趕來，我們一起陪著他迎來了新年的鐘聲，我們慶幸趙建剛算是過了這個年。

大年初一，當我們又趕往醫院時，大夫讓趕快準備后事，我們四位戰友一起去為趙建剛選了壽衣。初二晚上，大夫說多來幾個人等著吧，今晚過不去，趙建剛已無父母，兄弟姐姐全在外地，只有我們幾個戰友在走廊上陪著他，大夫很感動，問道，他沒有年輕的親戚嗎?你們歲數大了，受的了嗎?大夫不知道我們是兵團戰士，啥罪都受過，熬個夜算什么。

昏迷又清醒，清醒又昏迷，趙建剛終于醒不來了，送往太平間后，幾位男戰友在太平間外點上香煙、對天高呼：趙建剛!安息!一路走好!

送葬那天，我給趙建剛寫了悼詞，念悼詞的賀養田戰友情感豐富，把那幾句結束語念的很凄哀：“......熱愛生活、熱愛大自然、熱愛南泥灣的好戰友趙建剛走了，愿你的靈魂離開這喧囂的鬧市，一直向北、向北，去到那流淌著你青春的故土安息吧!那里有純潔的天空、渾厚的沃土、清新的空氣、悅耳的蛙鳴......”。

趙建剛不會想到，在他的悼詞里會提到青蛙。
